3943-itok = 2nHwFBSeManfred Weber, German member of the CSU party, is the new Chairman of the European People’s Party group at the European Parliament. He was elected on 4 June and succeeds French member Joseph Daul (UMP) at the helm of the biggest political group in the EP. Born in 1972 in Lower Bavaria, Manfred Weber is an engineer by training.

On the post of the Commission President, Weber expresses his clear support for Jean-Claude Juncker, the Spitzenkandidat of the EPP in the European elections. “In the European Parliament it is clear that he will be our candidate. We support Juncker and expect the Council to propose Juncker as next Commission President,” Weber said, speaking to EuroparlTV.
Manfred Weber was first elected to the European Parliament in 2004. Between 2006 and 2009 he coordinated the EPP group’s activities in the EP’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee. In 2009, he was elected vice-chairman of the EPP group.

ELP buvo pirmoji politinė grupė, kuri po paskutinių Europos rinkimų susikūrė.
